Pony in chat

I started playing Otome games for work, so I had to try out Mystic Messenger.

MM's premise is that all interaction takes place in a private semi-real-time chatroom. The way characters speak, share pictures, and how dialogue changes whether or not you are present (it's possible to "miss" a chat due to the real-time clock) is a fresh take on interactive media.

Ironically, the character interaction at times feels more realistic than AAA games because nowadays some of our most intimate communications is via text.

The game captures expressions through the way characters text: for example, there is a longer delay before a wall of text is sent, rapid bursts of text convey excitement, and there is a liberal use of emojis (depending on the sender). With often more than 3 characters bouncing off of each other in a chatroom, it's easy to feel like being swept up in a living world.

It's totally female-orientated, but the developers poke fun at this by having the characters discuss the players' gender in the beginning before agreeing the player is female. For some reason, there is a pony default player avatar. I as a male had to choose this because I wonder if they were mocking Bronies lol.
